As many of you know, during this weeks show we spoke a lot about the Tim Tebow ad during the Super Bowl. I viewed the ad as an opportunity to show America what being pro-life is all about.
I anxiously waited for the ad to come on hoping that it would speak to millions of young women. I hoped they would see the incredible example of a woman who, at a young age, decided to give life a chance.
The commercial, instead, gave us a lighthearted, loving view of a mother-son relationship, but offered little else. Pam Tebow, Tim’s mother, lightly alludes to the controversy. "I call him my miracle baby," she says. "He almost didn't make it into this world. . . . you know, with all our family's been through, we have to be tough."
During the show I quoted Frances Kissling, the former president of Catholics for Choice, whose view of a “Pro-Life” ad I strongly disagreed with. I cannot, on the other hand, agree with her more when she says, “If there had not been all of that publicity over the last two weeks, this ad could have passed almost unnoticed. Who would have known what they're talking about? It's so subtle."
We missed an opportunity.
